Thank you!

Itโ€™s that special time of the year thatโ€™s surrounded with joy, appreciation, and fondness (not to mention stress but letโ€™s keep it positive). We are sincerely grateful to all of our partners who help with our mission to heal. Our best work occurs through our collaboration with you and the partnership we share in providing individualized, integrated, and innovative addiction treatment. We wish you and your family a very happy Thanksgiving.

Integrating Recovery & Spirituality

Rev. Dr. David Braumbaugh

Often during treatment, patients seek guidance for addiction recovery subjects that are non-clinical โ€” forgiveness, spiritual renewal, grief, finding oneโ€™s Higher Power, guilt, shame, and resentments. Ashleyโ€™s staff Spiritual Counselor, Rev. Dr. P. David Brumbaugh, DMin, MS, is there for our patients to help them navigate these topics.ย David offers a wealth of experience to those seeking guidance on subjects including spirituality and recovery, forgiveness, spiritual renewal, unresolved grief and loss, finding oneโ€™s Higher Power, dealing with guilt, shame, resentments, and guidance on prayer and meditation.

David served as pastor for various Presbyterian congregations in New York, Colorado, and Delaware before beginning his work as a counselor at Ashley in 2010. ย While working at Ashley, he enrolled in a seminary in Manhattan and was ordained as an Interfaith Minister in 2013. As an interfaith minister, he is passionate about the integration of spirituality and mental health as it pertains to recovery, and, in August, took on his new role as a Spiritual Counselor at Ashley.

David frequently works with patients who have self-medicated due to unresolved grief and loss. ย In one case he worked with a patient who had not fully grieved their fatherโ€™s death from several years prior and was found to be ย a major factor attributing to their alcoholism. David helped the patient by asking the patient to write a letter to their deceased father in which they expressed their sorrow and grief. ย He then subsequently led a worship service in the Chapel in memory of the patientโ€™s father. As a result, the patient began to come to terms with the death of their father and was willing to more fully seek a Higher Power and engage in their recovery.

Itโ€™s important to us to give patients an opportunity to explore all of the tools that can help them achieve long-term recovery.

Support Groups for Family Members

Ashleyโ€™s Parent & Family Connection meetings are a free resource for parents and guardians who have children in recovery or actively using. These monthly and regional meetings are professionally-facilitated and serve as a place for the family members to share support, wisdom, and perspective with the collateral effects of addiction. Please feel free to use this as a resource in helping your clients.
