Family Services

Addiction affects the people around us. Loved ones often suffer from the collateral effects of substance use disorder; they need a chance to seek understanding, communicate how they are feeling, and heal, too.

Virtual Family Services

Our family services include a virtual one-on-one coaching session with a licensed clinician designed to help family members or social supports explore available resources – both at Ashley and in their local community.  This session focuses on education, guidance and connecting them with tools and supports that can assist in navigating their loved one’s recovery process.

In-Person Services

Recovering Together is a two-day experience that provides families with the education, tools, and support they need to navigate recovery side-by-side with their loved ones.  This program includes an individualized family therapy session focused on exploring the next steps in the family’s recovery journey.

What to Expect

We believe that addiction is a family disease. The goals of Family Services are as follows:

  • Provide a better understanding of what to expect during the treatment experience.
  • Provide psychoeducation about the disease model of substance use disorder and the impact to families.
  • Provide an opportunity to share your experience and learn about resources to support you and your family/support system.
  • Offer a supportive environment to connect with other families who have shared experiences.
  • Provide an opportunity to expand your understanding while gaining additional support even after your loved one has discharged from care.

Virtual Parent & Family Connection Meetings

These free, weekly one-hour meetings provide a welcoming space for families and loved ones to share experiences and build community.  Meetings are open to anyone over the age of 16, regardless of whether their loved one received treatment at Ashley and are facilitated by an Ashley Alumni staff member. By connecting with others who understand, families can reduce feelings of isolation, gain perspective and build resilience.

The Effects of Addiction on the Family

Addiction has profound effects on families, often causing emotional turmoil, strained relationships, and financial hardships. The impact extends beyond the individual struggling with addiction to affect every member of the household. Families may experience feelings of guilt, shame, and helplessness as they witness their loved one’s struggles. The instability and unpredictability of addiction can lead to disrupted routines, communication breakdowns, and a sense of constant crisis within the family unit. Recognizing these challenges, support groups for families of individuals struggling with substance use disorders and family wellness play crucial roles in providing education, resources, and emotional support. These services offer a safe space for families to share experiences, learn coping strategies, and rebuild trust and communication. By addressing the effects of addiction on family dynamics and providing specialized support for their families, these initiatives help strengthen family resilience and facilitate healing processes essential for collective well-being and long-term recovery.
