The Roots Project
A Lifeline for Students in the Community Impacted by Substance Use Disorders
Providing a Structured and Supportive Environment
The Roots Project by Ashley is a peer led in school prevention initiative focused on adolescents between 6th and 12th grade. Ashley Addiction Treatment’s goal is to address the growing need of mental health and substance use prevention programs for youth. Every aspect of our programming is guided by our principle to deliver compassionate care in a structured, supportive and safe environment, that allows adolescents to acquire important life skills.
Rooted in Purpose
Research shows that early intervention and education can drastically decrease the probability for a substance use disorder (SUD) in adolescents. This is why we believe in educating our youth, our community, and building a stable support system.
The Roots Project Goals
- Strengthen and increase the resiliency of students through intentional interactions with trained professionals who have lived experience.
- Provide peer support.
- Educate and intervene early in the lives of students impacted by SUD’s.
- Create a safe space during school hours to express concerns, be educated on the impact of SUD’s and speak freely without judgment.
How We Operate
The Roots Project will staff 4 Young Adult Peer Recovery Specialists to provide in-school support. Peers will conduct daily groups and check-ins for students who have been identified as at-risk. This programing will not interfere with academic learning.
