The workshop will begin with an overview and discussion of current research on the classification and epidemiology of body image and eating disorders across the life span and for multiple populations. The goal is to increase awareness to better identify those who need treatment.
Learning objectives include:
1. Identify appropriate screening tools for those with eating disorders
2. Develop awareness of underlying causes of eating disorders
3. Provide four resources for additional support and treatment
Andrew Walen, MSSW, LCSW-C, LICSW, CEDS is the founder and executive director of The Body Image Therapy Center in the metro Baltimore, MD and D.C. areas. Mr. Walen currently serves as President of the National Association for Males with Eating Disorders (NAMED). He has appeared in multiple media outlets as an expert in males with eating disorders such as The Today Show and The New York Times and authored the book Man Up to Eating Disorders in 2014. A former professional musician and songwriter in Nashville, Andrew continues to work as a musician the Baltimore/DC area.
Refreshments and snacks will be provided. 1 CEU approved by The Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners.
