SUMMARY:Introduction to Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
DESCRIPTION:TOPIC: \nAcceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a unique empirically based psychological intervention that uses acceptance and mindfulness strategies\, together with commitment and behavior change strategies\, to increase psychological flexibility. Psychological flexibility means contacting the present moment fully as a conscious human being\, and based on what the situation affords\, changing or persisting in behavior in the service of chosen values. \nParticipants will have a better understanding of: \n\nPhilosophical and Theoretical roots\nTheory of Psychopathology\nThe six core processes of ACT\nCommon Misunderstandings about ACT\n\nPRESENTER: \n \nJOHN ARMANDO\, LCSW\nJohn has worked in a wide variety of medical\, mental health\, and substance abuse settings for over 25 years. He has provided individual\, couples\, family\, and group therapy in hospitals\, primary care\, physical rehab\, out-patient mental health\, and private practice. John has also provided clinical supervision and training for medical residents\, clinical social workers\, and counselors. John’s clinical approach is influenced by Motivational Interviewing which is an empirically supported clinical style designed to support clients to achieve and maintain changes related to their health and well being. John’s work with clients is also guided by mindfulness and acceptance-based approaches that come from the cognitive behavioral and humanistic traditions. In addition to working with individuals at Espenshade Counseling\, John specializes in working with parents\, couples\, and families. \nRefreshments and snacks will be provided.\n1 CEU approved by NAADAC. DESCRIPTION:TOPIC:\nPlease join Ashley’s James Ryan and Surfside’s Ian Koch this holiday season as they talk about the changing landscape of addiction treatment for Emerging Adults. We will discuss some of the challenges faced by patients and providers especially during the holiday season. \nRegistration is $25 and will cover lunch and the CEU processing. This event is open to all providers. \nSEATING IS LIMITED SO PLEASE REGISTER EARLY.\nThis program is Approved by the National Association of Social Workers (Approval # 886774025-5240) for 3 continuing education contact hours. \n  \n  \n[raw] \n\n \n\n[/raw] \n  \n  \nPRESENTERS:  \nIAN KOCH\, MS LCADC CAS\nIan Koch has spent the last decade working in various aspects of addiction treatment\, including addiction counseling\, intensive outpatient\, residential\, medication assisted treatment\, detox and private practice. He has also worked in sober living\, provided interventions\, run family programs and case management for clients. \nIan obtained a Master’s Degree in Community Mental Health from Southern New Hampshire University and a Graduate Certificate in Pastoral Care from Saint Michael’s College. He is a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor in multiple states and has received his Certification as an Addiction Specialist from the American Academy of Health Care Providers. \n\nJAMES RYAN\, LCPC\nJames M. Ryan is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and the Director of Emerging Adult Services at Ashley Addiction Treatment. He joined the Ashley clinical team a Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern and has served in numerous clinical roles prior to taking his current position. As a counselor\, he is dedicated to the holistic health of every individual. His clinical philosophy is rooted in spiritual and existential traditions with particular emphasis on the inherent human need for meaning and purpose in life. He believes that connection is the key to recovery with emphasis on three domains – self\, others\, and a power greater than self. As a program manager\, he works with a highly-skilled\, multidisciplinary team to assist young people in finding their path to recovery and an independent\, high quality of life. \n
