EAP Alcohol Treatment

February 3, 2018 by Ashley Addiction Treatment

With substance abuse remaining such a common issue in today’s world, it’s no surprise that employers frequently experience workers who are dealing with these serious issues. In fact, the impact that substance abuse can have on workplace relationships can be far-reaching. The information below will discuss some of these effects and how they can impact the work environment. Then, it will touch on EAP alcohol treatment and what this type of program entails.

The Effects of Substance Abuse in the Workplace

The effects of substance abuse within the work environment can be devastating in more ways than one. For example, when employees deal with complications from substance abuse, it can lead to an increase in tardiness, more sick days, accidents, and drastically lowered productivity levels. For these reasons, many employers now offer EAP alcohol treatment.

What is EAP Alcohol Treatment?

Employment Assistance Programs (EAP) are targeted programs provided by many employers today to combat substance abuse in the work environment. EAP alcohol treatment is a free program where the employer provides access to counseling and other essential treatment protocols.

What are the Benefits Provided by EAP Alcohol Treatment?

There are several distinct benefits associated with Employment Assistance Programs. The three main benefits listed below can prove helpful for both the employer and the affected employee.

No-Cost Program

EAP treatment plans are free of charge and typically include six treatment sessions. If the person needs additional treatment past this point, the counselor involved in the EAP treatment process can refer the individual to someone who can continue to provide necessary therapy.

Confidential Treatment

Many people suffering from substance abuse don’t want others to know about their struggles. Moreover, feeling safe in the workplace is a basic right that employees possess. As a result of this, treatment through EAP arrangements remain completely confidential. With the exception of being legally mandated to report cases of child abuse, no one else will be aware of what occurs during EAP treatment sessions.

Time Off for Treatments as Needed

In many cases, therapy and counseling sessions may fall during working hours. An added benefit of EAP options is the program allows the person to take time off to attend treatment sessions. The employer cannot demand access to information from therapy sessions, but they may request proof the employee did attend.
